The Main Components Of A Palletizing Workstation:

A complete industrial robot palletizing workstation consists of multiple key pieces of equipment working together to complete the palletizing task, mainly including the following parts:

1. Industrial Robot Body

This is the core execution unit of the entire workstation. Commonly used types include six-axis servo robots or four-axis SCARA robots. The appropriate model is selected based on the load capacity; generally, robots used for palletizing have a load range of 5kg to 50kg.

• Function: Grasping, handling, and stacking materials

• Requirements: High repeatability, fast operating speed, and high protection rating (IP54 or higher)

2. End Effector (Gripper)

Also known as a robotic hand, it directly contacts the materials. Different types are selected based on the shape and material of the materials:

• Suction type (vacuum suction cup)

• Clamping type (pneumatic gripper)

• Fork type (suitable for bagged or boxed goods)

Requirements: Strong adaptability, controllable gripping force, and unlikely to damage materials.

3. Vision Positioning System

Uses 2D/3D vision cameras combined with image processing software to identify the position, angle, height, and other information of the materials, guiding the robot to accurately grasp them.

• Function: Material positioning, posture recognition, obstacle detection

• Advantages: Improves the flexibility and intelligence of palletizing

4. Material Conveying System

Includes infeed conveyor belts, buffer zones, and outfeed conveyor belts to ensure continuous entry and exit of materials from the workstation.

• Types: Roller type, belt type, chain type

• Control method: PLC linkage, supporting start/stop, speed adjustment, and other functions

5. Pallet Supply and Lifting Device

• Pallet magazine: Used to store empty pallets and supply them as needed

• Pallet lifting platform: Automatically adjusts the pallet position according to the stacking height to ensure stacking stability

• Pallet conveyor: Transports the loaded pallets to the next process

6. Control System and Human-Machine Interface (HMI)

The brain of the entire workstation, usually composed of a PLC + touch screen + robot controller, is responsible for coordinating the actions of each device, setting palletizing parameters (such as the number of layers, arrangement method, stacking order, etc.), and providing fault alarms and status monitoring. • Supports switching between multiple palletizing modes

• Can be integrated with MES systems for data uploading and remote control

7. Safety Protection Devices

To ensure the safety of operators and equipment, the workstation should be equipped with:

• Safety fences and light curtains

• Emergency stop buttons

• Safety door locks

• Video surveillance system (optional)
